Rise up, my love
Saturday 15 March 2025, 7.30pm
St Chad's Church, Shrewsbury
With its sensuous and evocative poetry, the biblical Song of Songs (also called the Song of Solomon) celebrates both human and divine love, and has inspired many composers over the last five or more centuries.
This concert also marks the 500th anniversary of the birth of Palestrina: a selection from his Canticum Canticorum will feature alongside music by his contemporaries Lassus, Victoria and Clemens non Papa, and contrasted with composers from the 20th and 21st centuries, including René Clausen, Ola Gjeilo and Eleanor Daley. This very special concert will conclude with David Bednall's Rise up, my love.
Organ: Tony Pinel
Conductor: David Thomas
